If you’re looking for ways to create the perfect cottage bedroom, this post is for you! Designing a cottage bedroom can be tough when you don’t have a starting point. I have put together my top five tips for creating a cozy cottage bedroom you won’t want to leave!
This post tells you everything you need to get the perfect cozy cottage bedroom
1. Wallpaper
The key to adding character in a cottage bedroom is wallpaper. A wall covering makes the space charming, while at the same time adding warmth and style to the space. Depending on the room (who will be using it, the light that comes in, etc.) you can go more detailed or keep it simple. Sandberg Wallpaper and Lulu and Georgia have some of the best wallpaper with a wide range of color options. I have linked some of my favorites below!
2. Layered bedding
Cozy and inviting bedding makes the space look thoughtfully designed. Often times the importance of the right bedding is overlooked when refreshing a room. You want to think about what to layer, how to layer, which patterns and colors to use. Not only do you want the bedding to look plush, you want it to feel plush. You don’t have to spend big bucks on bedding, but you do have to put some thought into it. Target and Home Goods both have really great prices on bedding, just make sure you layer to give it that luxurious feel. Layering like in the image below will help you achieve the coziest cottage bedroom.

3. Some vintage pieces
I love new, clean, and affordable, but there is nothing quite like an antique piece to add character to the space. Lake houses, cottages, and cabins all have pops of character. Try to find a vintage piece to work your bedroom around – an antique bed, old dresser, vintage rug, and design from there. Save the “new” for your bedding, mattress, curtains etc., things that will keep the space feeling fresh.
4. Antique art, flag, etc.
One of the best features in cottages is the use of antique art, something textured is my personal favorite. Framed textiles or a vintage flag are great options to add dimension, otherwise an old piece of art adds the perfect amount of character to a cleaner, newly designed space. The best place to shop for custom flags and vintage textiles is on Etsy.
5. Warm lighting
There is nothing worse than a cozy space with bright can lights. When styling your cottage bedroom make sure you add some good lighting. A nice statement flush-mount fixture on the ceiling, or a couple sconces are my go-to options. I have linked some of my favorites below!

I’m reminded how to blend new and old together. I like your suggestion of adding a vintage piece to a newly designed space to add character.
