Want to know the best bedding essentials to make your room feel luxurious? There are a few key components that interior designers use to take a room to the next level, and it’s all in the bedding. Here are the 5 bedding essentials I swear by when putting together a bedroom.
The bed is the centerpiece of the room. Not only do you want it to be visually appealing, but you want it to feel amazing too. You don’t have to spend a lot of money when putting a bed together (you will have to spend some), though you will have to be intentional about it. A well-designed room can fall flat when the bedding is overlooked. If you want the interior designer look, keep reading!
This post is all about bedding essentials!
1. Linen duvet cover
This one you want to put at the top of your bedding essentials list. This is a great starting off point for everything else you’ll put on your bed. True linen is a timeless material, but if you like something a little softer to the touch, go with a cotton blend linen like the one linked below (we have it and love it)! It will give you a natural, organic look that pairs well with anything!
2. Mixed patterns
Mixing patterns amongst pillows and blankets can make your bed look more curated. Solid shams mixed with patterned throw pillows are the perfect combination of simple, yet detailed. Thoughtfully chosen patterns that compliment each other will again contribute to the luxurious look of your bed.
3. Thick duvet insert
A thick, plush duvet insert will give your bed more height, and also make it look like a luxury hotel bed. I prefer a down duvet insert. It looks and feels incredible, but also provides plenty of warmth if you’re living in a cool climate. Most beds you see in a magazine have the duvet folded in half or thirds towards the foot of the bed. When folded down with layered blankets on top it adds even more height and style to the bed. If you’re in a warmer climate or it’s the summer months, just leave the duvet folded at the foot of the bed when sleeping.
4. Throw blankets
Throw blankets are a perfect way to add texture and more detail to your bed. They are so versatile and perfect for changing things up without having to spend a lot of money. For example when the seasons change and there is transition, you can change out the throw blankets (patterns, colors, textures etc.) without doing a bedding overhaul. I love a good thick knit blanket in the winter, and some lightweight linen options in the summer!
5. The right amount of pillows
You want to make sure that your pillows are filling up the width of the bed. Too often we see pillows that are too small and not proportioned well, or there aren’t enough of them. If you have a king bed, you want large euro shams or king size rectangular pillows to start with. Then layer smaller ones in front. You can mix and match the shapes, but you want to make sure there is order to it. Below are some options for pillow layouts based on bed size.If you’re looking to refresh your bedroom without renovating, try starting with updating your bedding! These are all of the bedding essentials I would start with when styling your bedroom.
